Safety & Reporting

Last updated: 14 May 2026

SoHey is operated by So Hey Limited, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 09957307.

This page explains how safety, reporting and blocking work in SoHey.

SoHey is currently in beta and is available to users aged 18 or over.

1. Our safety approach

SoHey is designed to support real-world, in-person social connection.

Because SoHey involves nearby discovery and verified real-world interactions, user safety is central to the app.

SoHey is built around the following principles:

Real-world trust.

User control.

Clear reporting.

Simple blocking.

No tolerance for abuse, harassment or exploitation.

Server-authoritative verification.

SoHey can help confirm that a verified meet took place, but it does not guarantee any person’s identity, intentions, behaviour or safety.

You are responsible for using your own judgement when deciding whether to meet or interact with another person.

2. In an emergency

SoHey is not an emergency service.

If you are in immediate danger, feel unsafe, or need urgent help, contact the police, emergency services or local authorities immediately.

In the UK, call 999 in an emergency.

Do not rely on SoHey reports or email contact for urgent or emergency situations.

3. Reporting a user

You can report another user in the SoHey app where reporting is available.

You can also contact us at:

info@sohey.app

When making a report, please include as much relevant information as possible, such as:

  • The name or profile details of the user you are reporting
  • What happened
  • When it happened
  • Where in the app it happened
  • Whether it related to a SoHey request, check-in, nearby discovery or verified meet
  • Any other details that may help us review the issue

During beta, reports are reviewed manually by SoHey.

4. What you can report

You should report behaviour that may breach our Terms, Beta Terms or Community Guidelines.

This may include:

  • Harassment
  • Threats
  • Abusive or intimidating behaviour
  • Impersonation or fake profiles
  • Misuse of SoHey requests
  • Misuse of QR or meet verification
  • Attempts to fake, pressure or manipulate a verified meet
  • Inappropriate sexual behaviour
  • Discriminatory or hateful behaviour
  • Suspicious or unsafe behaviour
  • Attempts to contact or involve under-18s
  • Child safety concerns
  • Illegal activity

Anything else that makes you feel unsafe or concerned.

5. Blocking a user

SoHey allows users to block other users in the app where blocking is available.

Blocking is designed to reduce unwanted interaction.

When you block someone:

  • They should no longer appear to you in nearby discovery
  • You should no longer appear to them in nearby discovery
  • Meet requests between you and that person should be prevented
  • The blocked user is not told that you have blocked them

Blocking is not a substitute for reporting serious safety concerns. If someone has acted abusively, dangerously, illegally or in a way that concerns you, please also report them.

During beta, if you need help with a block or believe a block was made in error, contact us at:

info@sohey.app

6. What happens after a report

When SoHey receives a report, we may review:

  • The report reason
  • Any details provided by the reporting user
  • Relevant account information
  • Relevant app activity
  • Relevant safety, request, block or meet information
  • Other information needed to understand the issue

Depending on the circumstances, we may take action including:

  • Taking no action if there is not enough information
  • Monitoring or reviewing the issue
  • Contacting the reporting user for more information
  • Warning a user
  • Blocking or restricting a user
  • Suspending or deleting an account
  • Taking steps to protect other users
  • Reporting serious matters to law enforcement or other appropriate authorities

We do not guarantee that we will tell you the outcome of a report, especially where doing so may affect another user’s privacy, safety, an investigation or legal obligations.

7. False or abusive reports

Reports must be made honestly and in good faith.

You must not use reporting tools to harass, intimidate, threaten or unfairly target another user.

False, malicious or abusive reports may result in action against your account.

8. Verified meets and safety

SoHey’s verified meet system is designed to confirm that a real-world interaction occurred.

A verified meet does not mean that SoHey has fully verified a person’s identity, background, character or intentions.

You should still take sensible precautions when meeting or interacting with another person.

For example:

  • Meet in a safe and public place where possible
  • Tell someone you trust where you are going
  • Leave if you feel uncomfortable
  • Do not share sensitive personal information too quickly
  • Do not feel pressured to scan a QR code or complete a verification
  • Report behaviour that feels unsafe or inappropriate
  • Contact emergency services if you are in danger

9. Location and nearby discovery safety

SoHey uses location and check-in information to support nearby discovery and meet verification.

SoHey does not use background location tracking.

Users must actively check in or start a QR-related flow to appear nearby.

Nearby visibility is time-limited.

Even with these protections, you should be careful when sharing location-based information or choosing to meet another user.

10. Under-18 users

SoHey is currently for users aged 18 or over.

Under-18 users are not permitted to use SoHey during beta.

If you believe a user is under 18, or if you have any child safety concern, report it immediately in the app where available or contact:

info@sohey.app

For more information, see our Child Safety Standards.

11. Serious harm, illegal content and law enforcement

SoHey may take action where we believe there is a risk of serious harm, illegal activity, exploitation, abuse or misuse of the app.

This may include preserving information, restricting access, deleting accounts or reporting matters to law enforcement or other appropriate authorities.

If we believe there is an immediate risk to a person’s safety, we may take urgent action without prior notice.
